Description

"Victor Burgin has noted that in our image-saturated environment, our exterior space has become more and more like the space of subjective fantasy turned inside out. In The End, Burgin presents us with a gallery installation of six color photographs that explores this relationship between fantasy and reality by contrasting the experience of watching a film with that of viewing an art exhibition. All six of the three-by-seven foot photographs in this installation explicitly echo the cinema both in their proportions and in their use of the words “The End” in the center of each panel.

Burgin was born in 1941 in Sheffield, England and was educated at the Royal College of Art in London and Yale University. He lives in San Francisco, and teaches in the Art History and History of Consciousness programs at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
