Three new exhibitions to open across both gallery locations this April 

Buffalo, NY — University at Buffalo Art Galleries is pleased to announce the new appointment of Anna Wager, Ph.D. as Curator of Exhibitions. 

“My work begins with a quotidian engagement in a new translation of our socio-political and racial climates through space and structure. It is about asking publics to reclaim power, a territory, a place, a relationship, that they may not have recognized.”  

May 11, 2021 Buffalo, NY — This summer the University at Buffalo Art Galleries presents the first major posthumous exhibition of work by pioneering painter Elizabeth Murray (1940–2007). This survey presents a fresh look at important themes and motifs of Murray’s five-decade career.

January 13, 2021,  Buffalo, NY — The University at Buffalo Art Galleries has been awarded a grant of $100,000 from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to support a two-year program of exhibitions. As part of a research-focused university, UB Art Galleries is committed to advancing art as inquiry. UB Art Galleries recognizes that an artist’s work takes many forms and is thus programming with a spirit of intrepid experimentation and eagerness to draw from the university’s resources and faculty expertise.

October 9, 2019, Buffalo, NY — University at Buffalo Art Galleries is pleased to announce the new appointment of Robert Scalise as Director and Liz Park as Curator. Robert Scalise has been promoted to Director this summer following the past three years of leading UB Art Galleries in an acting capacity and eighteen years of service in a number of positions. As Acting Director, Scalise expanded the UB Art Galleries’ permanent collection and secured significant acquisitions valued at over $5,000,000. A recipient of the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award of Excellence for his leadership in building the Cravens World open-storage collection, Scalise has focused his energy on cultivating donors and engaging communities. Scalise also led the development of the Connect Gallery with support from Conventus on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus as a community art space in a citywide outreach effort.
