Joseph Norman

Joseph Norman draws deeply on the reservoir of meaning and imagery. His linear gymnastics and literal ambiguity confirm a narrative as familiar as it is impenetrable. This installation is richly rooted in associations with nature’s sublime, children’s stories of dark forests and overgrown castles, and formal relationships between art and nature.
Organized by the Newport Art Museum, Newport, Rhode Island.
Curated by Nancy Whipple Grinnell.
Catalogue available with essays by curator Nancy Whipple Grinnell, Leslie King-Hammond, Edmond Barry Gaither, and Martin Hunt.
