MFA Thesis Exhibition
Kara Newbauer’s Color Stacks & Painted Paintings on view in the Second Floor Gallery uses observational painting, reproductions of paintings, and found images to create a space that allows the viewer to discover relationships within the surrounding world, as well the very way the world is represented, re-represented, and validated through historical record. In this case, she pursues her imagery in stacks of art history books. Throughout the installation, paintings reference images, images reference paintings, and illusion references flat color, creating a self-reflexive space where remembering, forgetting, and critical questioning become the dominant experiences.
Kara Newbauer was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and is currently living and working in Buffalo, New York. She received a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2006 and is currently completing a Master’s of Fine Arts at the University at Buffalo.
