This fund supports study abroad experiences for students, as well as international-related resources for University Libraries.
As part of a mission to help UB students become informed, global citizens, this fund supports a variety of initatives and experiences related to international study.
Specifically, the fund is used by the University Libraries to provide funding for resources on international issues and foreign language materials. In addition, the fund facilitates undergraduate and graduate study abroad experiences by providing financial support to students participating in study abroad opportunities. Financial support is provided based on student needs, with a goal of balancing support for undergraduates and graduate students, as well as for students in various schools throughout the university.
This fund was established by Claude E. Welch, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor, and Jeannette Ludwig, Associate Professor of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. Claude Welch is a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor who was a member of the faculty in the Department of Political Science in the UB College of Arts and Sciences for 52 years. Jeannette Ludwig was an associate professor of Romance Languages and Literatures at UB, specializing in both the history and structure of the French language as well as the comparative study of religion. In addition to teaching, Ludwig was Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education in the 1990s.
