The Tracey I. Wheeler Scholarship is an endowed fund at the UB School of Nursing that provides annual tuition support to undergraduate nursing students, focusing on students from disadvantaged Buffalo neighborhoods, or otherwise may need extra financial help.
In 2015 Robert Wheeler, who received a degree in exercise science from UB, established the Tracey I. Wheeler Scholarship. This endowed fund at the School of Nursing is in honor of his late wife who passed away of sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 45. Tracey, a registered nurse who specialzed in critical care, received an associate nursing degree from Sisters Hospital and was known for the exceptional care she gave and the close relationships she formed with patients.
She was determined to get an education and start a career that would take her out of the economically depressed area she grew up in on Buffalo's East side. This scholarship was formed to provide annual tuition support to undergraduate nursing students, focusing on those like Tracey coming from disadvantaged Buffalo neighborhoods, or who otherwise may need extra financial help.
