Whether you are returning from winter break, or coming to live at UB for the first time, we welcome you to your home away from home. We are committed to providing a safe, clean and vibrant community for you to excel personally and academically from the moment you arrive here.

Returning Students Opening Date: January 18, 2025
On-campus residence halls and apartments re-open at 9 a.m. If you are a retuning student, you may go directly to your assigned room. You are not required to check-in in person or meet with any staff upon arrival.
- You will need to complete spring check-in process in the housing portal.
- Don't forget to bring your UB ID card and keys.
If you need to move in after 5 p.m. on the first day of classes (January 22, 2025), you must request Late Move-In. Not requesting late move-in can result in your room assignment being cancelled.
NEW TO ON CAMPUS HOUSING THIS SEMESTER: JANUARY 18, 2025
- Report to your designated check-in location between January 18 and January 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Designated check-in locations are in the area and village office for your assigned residence hall/apartment.
- You must bring a photo ID to complete check-in.
- A staff member will check you in and give you your key, as well as directions to your room or apartment location.

- Order by January 15 and it will be delivered to your room before you arrive.
- Orders can be placed at the link below or by calling 800-525-7307
- The university uses a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system which has replaced physical parking hang tags.
- All residents who choose to have a car on campus must register for their virtual parking permit at no additional cost.
- If you live in the residence halls, you can park in one of the nearby lots (weekend visitors can park in a residence hall lot without a permit after 3 p.m. Friday).
- If you have a guest visiting you, please have them visit the Parking and Transportation office to receive a guest parking tag
Purchase renters insurance if you are not covered by your parent/guardian's policy. Buy coverage before you get to UB. This is highly suggested for both residence hall and apartment residents.

Checking In: Step by Step
Check In at Ellicott
All Ellicott Complex residents must check-in at The Landing at the Ellicott Complex. Report to the front desk in The Landing to receive your key.
- Park in the lot closest to your check in location and proceed to the nearest entrance. Do not unload at this time.
- You will receive your key(s) and directions to your assigned parking lot and other important information.
- Use the provided Google map to navigate to the parking lot closest to your building.
- Unload your vehicle then you (or a helper) will move your car to long-term parking space. In the meantime you (or helpers) may begin moving belongings to your assigned room.
Moving In After Hours?
If you need to arrive after published hours, call the number posted at the area or complex office; or contact University Police at 716-645-2227 upon arrival on campus. They will notify a staff member on duty to meet you at your check-in site.

Walking Directions from the Parking Lot
Buildings 1, 2, 3 & 7
- Park in Red Jacket Extension Lot (smaller lot to
- your right when entering Red Jacket Lot).
- Follow sidewalk up and walk towards Porter courtyard on your right.
- Enter Building 7 door on your right.
- Walk forward and use elevator EL-100 on the left.
Building 4 & 5
- When in the Gaine Terrace (Porter loop), walk towards Building 5 on your right.
- If full, park in Red Jacket Extension Lot (smaller lot to your right when entering Red Jacket Lot) and follow pathway to your right towards Gaine Terrace.
- Enter Building 5 Door and turn right.
- Walk past the laundry room on your left and make a left through the door.
- For Building 4, use ramp to ground level and use elevator EL-101 directly ahead.
- For Building 5, use elevator EL-102 on your right.
Building 6
- Park in Red Jacket Extension Lot (smaller lot to your right when entering Red Jacket Lot).
- Follow sidewalk up and walk towards Porter courtyard on your right.
- Enter Building 6 door on your left.
- Walk through the double doors.
- Turn left and follow hallway.
- At the door at the end of the hallway, make a quick left and use elevator EL-103 on your left.
Walking Directions from the Parking Lot
Buildings 1, 2, & 3
- Park in Red Jacket Lot.
- Walk up ramp and follow pathway around Building 1 to the left.
- Turn right to enter Red Jacket courtyard.
- Turn right towards Building 2 door.
- Enter Building 2 and turn left down hallway
- After passing bathrooms on your right, use elevator
- EL-100 on your left.
Building 4 & 5
- When in Moody Terrace (Richmond loop), walk towards entrance to the C3 Dining Hall.
- If full, park in Richmond B lot and walk forward towards entrance to the C3 Dining Hall.
- Enter through two sets of double doors and turn left at C3 Dining hall desk.
- Follow hallway past the laundry room on your left.
- Make the first left to enter the Building 5 door.
- For Building 4, use ramp to ground level and use elevator EL-101 directly ahead.
- For Building 5, use elevator EL-102 on your left.
Building 6
- When in Moody Terrace (Richmond loop), walk towards entrance to the C3 Dining Hall.
- If full, park in Richmond B lot and walk forward towards entrance to the C3 Dining Hall.
- Enter through two sets of double doors and walk forward.
- Continue following the path until you see Building 6 door on your left.
- Enter Building 6 door on your left.
- Make a right and use elevator EL-103 on your left.
Walking Directions from the Parking Lot
Buildings 1 & 2
- When in Moody Terrace (Richmond loop), walk towards Building 3.
- If full, parking in Richmond B lot and walk forward towards Building 3 (on your left).
- Enter Building 3 and turn left to follow hallway down.
- At the end of the hallway, turn left and follow hallway.
- Make a quick right and use elevator EL-100 directly on your right.
Buildings 3 & 4
- When in Moody Terrace (Richmond loop), walk towards Building 3.
- If full, parking in Richmond B lot and walk forward towards Building 3 (on your left).
- Enter Building 3, turn right and follow hallway down past the laundry room on your left.
- Make a right through the Building 4 door.
- For Building 3, use elevator EL-101 on your left.
- For Building 4, use ramp to ground level and use elevator EL-102 directly ahead.
Buildings 5 & 6
- Park in Richmond A lot.
- Follow sidewalk up and enter Building 6 door.
- Turn right through blue door and make a quick left down hallway.
- Walk past Rooms 191 and 192 on your left.
- Use elevator EL-103 on your right.

Buildings 1, 2, & 3
- Park in the Spaulding Lot.
- Follow ramp up and walk left towards Spaulding courtyard.
- Enter Building 3 door and turn right.
- Make a quick right and use elevator EL-100 on your right.
Buildings 4 & 5
- When in Newcomb Terrace (Wilkeson loop), walk forward towards Building 5.
- If full, parking in Spaulding Lot near loop and walk forward towards Building 5.
- Enter Building 5 and turn left to follow hallway past laundry room on your right.
- For Building 4, use ramp to ground level and use elevator EL-102 directly ahead.
- For Building 5, use elevator EL-101 on your left.
Buildings 6 & 7
- Park in the Spaulding Lot.
- Follow ramp up and enter Building 6 door.
- Turn left through blue door.
- For Building 6, make a quick left and use elevator EL-103.
- For Building 7, turn right into hallway. Continue down hallway until the end. Make left to use elevator EL-104 on your right.
Walking Directions from the Parking Lot
Buildings 1, 2, 3 & 4
- When in Newcomb Terrace (Wilkeson loop), walk right towards courtyard (past exit to the tunnel and Building 8).
- If full, park in Spaulding lot near lot and walk left towards courtyard.
- Enter Building 4 door that is located in the right corner of the courtyard.
- For Buildings 1, 2, & 3, use elevator EL-100 forward ahead.
- For Building 4, make a left use elevator EL-101 on your left.
Buildings 5, 6 & 8
- When in Newcomb Terrace (Wilkeson loop), walk right towards courtyard (past exit to the tunnel and Building 8).
- If full, park in Spaulding lot near lot and walk left towards courtyard.
- Enter Building 4 door that is located in the right corner of the courtyard.
- Turn left walk past the two elevators.
- Turn right and enter Building 5 door.
- Walk past the laundry rooms on your left.
- After you past the bathrooms on your right, use elevator EL-102.
Walking Directions from the Parking Lot
Buildings 1, 2, 3 & 4
- Park in Fargo Lot
- Enter using the main doors at “the Landing”
- Walk past the reception desk and Social Stairs
- Enter last door on the right before the Academic Center
- For Building 1,2,3 use elevator EL-101
- For Building 4, use elevator EL-100
Buildings 5 & 6
- Park in Fargo Lot
- Enter using the main doors at “the Landing”
- Walk past the reception desk and Social Stairs
- Turn left into the hallway by the Campus Living tour room
- Turn right at the next hallway and make another right to elevator EL-102
Buildings 7
- Park in Fargo Lot
- Enter using the main doors at “the Landing”
- Make a right turn at the reception desk
- Enter the door leading to elevator EL-103
- Moving carts are available in designated areas
- Carts must be checked out with a staff member before use.
- A UBID is required for check out.
- Only one cart can be issued to each student at a time.
- Carts should be returned as soon as you are finished using them.
- Carts must be returned to a staff member in a designated area.
- Carts can only be issued and returned during posted business hours.
- If your cart is not returned by the close of business, keep it until the following day.
- Unreturned carts will be assessed an $138 replacement fee.
- Campus Living will begin accepting letters and packages for spring 2025 students on January 2, 2025; please do not ship items to your campus address before that date.
- Students who have items shipped to campus prior to their arrival will be sent an email with details on how to pick up their mail.

Each residential area on-campus has its own mail and package area. Students are provided a mailbox for flat letters; students will be notified via their ‘buffalo.edu’ email with details of where to retrieve packages.
All campus mail is first delivered to our central mail service center, located on North Campus. From there it is processed and sent to our individual residential areas for delivery. All packages are ready for pick up within 2 business days of arriving on campus.
Assignment Changes
At UB, we will work with you to try to accommodate housing change requests. However, these changes may take time, and are not always possible due to room availability and other considerations.
Cancel Housing
The housing cancellation deadline was December 1, 2024 for new spring applicants. Cancellation requests received after this date will be evaluated on a case by case basis and if approved may incur a financial penalty.
All cancellation requests should be submitted directly through the Housing Portal.
