In 2021, the former Porter Quad was renamed Evans Quad to honor the late Willie R. Evans, a long time Buffalo educator and community activist. He was a star running back on UB’s historic 1958 football team that declined an invitation to the Tangerine Bowl because Black teammates Evans and Mike Wilson would have been barred from playing. > Learn more about Willie Evans and the 1958 Bulls

The Ellicott Complex is UB’s largest housing complex. It houses approximately 3,200 students and is divided into six buildings, or quadrangles (Evans, Fargo, Red Jacket, Richmond, Spaulding and Wilkeson), each with its own activities and events. Dormitory-style rooms vary from one to four-person rooms in each building. Ellicott offers general and specialty housing, including areas designated for first-year students (management, health, social sciences and first-year exploration), as well as gender-inclusive housing.
