The Career Design Center’s Experiential Learning & Student Employment Team is excited to announce the upcoming launch of the Here to Career+ Exploratory (Pilot) Program!

Now Launching: Here to Career+ Exploratory Program

This newly funded program seeks to provide first and second year undergraduate students who are exploring major and career pathways with paid, hands-on, and practical internship experiences in various departments across the university. The goal of the program is to encourage students to explore different career paths, develop professional skills, and gain insight into potential fields of interest while contributing to the operational success of the university, ultimately giving them the chance to earn while they learn!

The Exploratory Program, at a glance:

Why participate? As a mentor, you can help students explore their potential, navigate challenges, and shape their future paths—all while reinforcing UB's commitment to student success! This program will promote professional growth through various Here to Career+ training opportunities/resources as well as networking with campus-wide mentors/supervisors. Join us for webinars, coffee chats and our very own Careers by Design Day mini conference this spring!

Who can participate? First and second year undergraduate students + University at Buffalo professional staff interested in showcasing their day-to-day work to exploring students.

What kind of experiences are eligible? Each department’s proposed experience should encompass the following:

  1. Career Exploration: Enable students to explore different career options through mentorship, shadowing, projects, volunteer opportunities, etc.
  2. Skill Development: Enhance students’ professional, technical, and interpersonal skills by providing real-world work experiences.
  3. Networking Opportunities: Foster relationships between students, faculty, and administrative staff to build a professional network within the academic environment.
  4. Contribution to University Operations: Provide meaningful contributions to various university projects and initiatives, increasing student ownership and pride in their institution.
  5. Academic and Practical Integration: Encourage students to integrate academic learning with practical work experiences, reinforcing the relevance of classroom education.
