Steven D. Schwaitzberg, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Surgery, is an international leader in novel surgical technology, recognized for his service in clinical care and his education of medical trainees. Schwaitzberg’s research and clinical interests focus on sophisticated device development and simulation with novel, minimally invasive surgical technology, extensively influencing the global surgical community. A visionary educator, he has sought to enhance surgical education worldwide, and his service has earned him myriad honors. He was named a Master Educator in Surgery by the American College of Surgeons, and a teaching video he created for surgeons was awarded a Computerworld/National Smithsonian 21st Century Laurette Award for using technology to produce beneficial societal change.
