Research Facilities
As one of the world's premier research institutions, UB has an impressive collection of specialized equipment and dedicated research facilities. We invite you to learn more about research facilities utilized in cell, gene and tissue engineering research.
UB Core Facilities
Clinical Research Center
Clinical and Translational Research Center
The Clinical Research Center (CRC) — located in the UB Clinical and Translational Research Center — is a seven-room, full-service outpatient research clinic. As an investigator conducting studies in the CRC, you can expect a wide range of equipment and services to support your work.
Confocal Microscopy/Cellular Imaging
406 Biomedical Research Building
Our instrument laboratory provides training and consultation services for researchers whose work involves flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and gel-documentation.
CTRC Translational Imaging Center
Clinical and Translational Research Center, 7th floor
Features state-of-the-art imaging equipment dedicated to clinical and translational research, including MRI, CT and PET/CT scanners.
Electron Microscopy Lab
320 Sherman Hall
Electron microscopy is provided by the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences. Faculty, trainees, students and other researchers visit this facility when their work requires technology for high resolution thin section work and biological specimen preparation.
Next-Generation Sequencing and Expression
UB New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences
This facility offers high-throughput, next-generation sequencing on two illumina HiSeq2500 and MiSeq platforms. We have expertise in whole-genome, exome, epigenetic and microbiome sequencing, and we work in conjunction with a team of bioinformaticists to help facilitate rapid analysis and algorithm deployment, as well as data storage and management.
Proteomics/Mass Spectrometry Facility
This facility focuses on:
- Ultra-sensitive quantification of small-molecule analytes such as drugs, metabolites and biomolecules
- Comprehensive protein expression profiling and differential proteome analysis
- Ultra-sensitive quantification of proteins/peptides
Toxicology Research Center
15 Cary Hall
This facility provides expertise in toxicology for basic and applied research projects. It maintain an analytical toxicology laboratory and offer a wide variety of analytical techniques to solve complicated research problems.
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility
416 Biomedical Research Building
We help investigators generate induced pluripotent stem cells from human skin fibroblasts using lentiviral vectors delivering five reprogramming factors (Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, c-Myc and Nanog).
Stem Cell Culture, Banking and Training Facility
416 Biomedical Research Building
Researchers at UB use this facility for innovative studies. Services include training courses on stem cell culture and consultation on the differentiation of stem cells to cell types.
Stem Cell Engraftment Facility
431 Biomedical Research Building
This facility analyzes the engraftment of a variety of stem cells in vivo, the effects of genetic modification of stem cells on engraftment and stem cell function, and the behavioral consequences of neural engraftment.
Stem Cell Sequencing/Epigenomics Analysis
New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, B3-123
We are a resource for epigenomic analysis of stem cells. Our facility functions interactively with other stem cell facilities at UB to characterize stem cells and their differentiated progeny.
