BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A six-week course that details theory and procedures for valuing closely held stock is being offered by the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) in the School of Management.

The Valuation of Closely Held Businesses Certificate Program will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, from April 7 through May 12, on UB's North Campus.

It is geared for attorneys, bank trust officers, business owners and advisors, and accountants. "Valuation is a critical skill for managing business finances," says Marianne Sullivan, director of the CEL. "It is used not only when you purchase and sell a business, but for tax, estate planning, corporate planning and litigation purposes."

The course will be taught by Edward W. Hutton of Hutton, Finkel and Co., a firm that specializes in advising business owners regarding strategic and business planning, including acquisition and divestitures.

Participants will learn different standards of value; various approaches to valuation including cost-based, market, and income-based methods; applications of discounts and premiums, and how to prepare reports.

The cost of the course is $399 and includes program materials. Corporations enrolling two or more employees will receive a 10 percent tuition discount. For more information, call 645-3000.
