Community Health Equity Pilot Studies Program

Provide support to train the next generation of early-career health equity researchers

people.
Overview

The Community Health Equity Research Institute, with an award from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), provides pilot study grants to support projects in health equity and adverse social determinants of health for early-stage investigators and postdoctoral fellows from UB.

The grant, titled “Igniting Hope in Buffalo, New York Communities: Training the Next Generation of Health Equity Researchers,” attracts researchers from health care disciplines, as well as non-health care fields, to develop and test innovative solutions to eliminate health inequities in the region. The center will utilize a “community-based participatory research” approach, where community members are a partner in the research, helping to design, plan and conduct the research so that they can gain the greatest benefit from it.

Funding for pilot study projects allows early-stage investigators to generate preliminary data to secure future extramural funding to address root causes that will advance health equity research.
