UB Management Students Receive Commencement Awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Eighteen University at Buffalo students received awards for excellence in their fields of study during the commencement ceremony for the UB School of Management held on Saturday, May 17.

€ Sulayman Ali Hassan of Albion, Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key, awarded to the full-time undergraduate who compiles the highest grade-point average of all eligible graduating students.

€ Daniel J. Perkins of Warsaw, Charles E. Diefendorf Award in Finance, given to the student who, in the judgment of the faculty, has made the greatest contribution to the finance discipline.

€ Pamela C. Johnston of Buffalo, Sidney N. Kahn Memorial Award for MBA Student Excellence in Sales and Marketing, awarded to the MBA student who, in the judgment of the faculty, has made the greatest contribution to the field of sales and marketing.

€ Kimberly J. Pustulka of West Seneca, Adriana Ilyse Thaler Memorial Senior Award in Marketing, awarded to the senior marketing student who best demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, marketing professionalism and personal motivation.

€ Jenelle S. Orto of Loveland, Ohio, and Nicholas Silvaroli of Niagara Falls, University at Buffalo Accounting Association Michael S. Dockery Memorial Senior Awards, given to the senior accounting students who, in the opinion of the membership of the association, have contributed in a superior way to Institute of Management Accountants and the accounting profession, the association itself, fellow students and to the School of Management.

€ Bertman J. Woodside of Grand Island, Wall Street Journal Graduate Student Achievement Award, granted to the MBA student compiling the highest grade-point average.

€ Esther L. Hawkins of Niagara Falls, Wall Street Journal Undergraduate Achievement Award, given to the Millard Fillmore College student who compiled the highest grade-point average.

€ John H. Lovelace II of West Seneca, William H. Wendel Memorial Award for MBA Student Excellence in Human Resources Management, awarded to the MBA student who, in the judgment of the faculty, has made the greatest contribution to the field of human resources management. Also, the MBA Achievement Award granted to the MBA student who, in the opinion of the Graduate Management Association, faculty and Management Alumni Association, has demonstrated scholastic excellence and has also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

€ Kimberly M. Robinson of Amherst and Jay J. Schwartzkopf of North Tonawanda, Undergraduate Achievement Award, granted to the students who, in the opinion of the Undergraduate Management Association, faculty and Management Alumni Association, have demonstrated scholastic excellence and have also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

€ Baik Yang of Seoul, Korea, Ph.D. Achievement Award, granted to the Ph.D. student who, in the opinion of the faculty and the Management Alumni Association, has demonstrated scholastic excellence and has also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

€ Thomas J. Lent of Depew, Ryan D. Nowicki of Buffalo, Gabriela E. Seidler of Staten Island, Jeffrey R. Johnson of Buffalo, Prasanna Katta of Buffalo and Michael J. Stetter of East Amherst, Outstanding Interns of the Year Award, given to undergraduate or MBA students who, in the judgment of the Faculty Advisory Committee on Internships, have performed in an outstanding manner in every dimension of his or her internship in the fields of accounting, finance, human resources, internal auditing, management science and systems, and marketing, respectively.
