Paul F. Hoffman, an internist and director of student health at UB for two decades, died March 30 in Amherst after a brief illness. He was 95.
A native of Buffalo, Hoffman was drafted into the Army in 1943 after graduating from the UB medical school. As a major, he oversaw 1,000 enlisted men and officers during his service in the United States and Europe. He was a battalion surgeon.
Starting in 1947, he worked for the Erie County Health Department, specializing in tuberculosis. He directed the UB student infirmary from the 1950s through the mid-1970s. He also gave physicals to Army recruits from the 1970s until his retirement in 2003.
