With the homicide that has occurred near the Clarence Bike Path, members of the university community are reminded that they should not travel alone on the Ellicott Creek bicycle path near the North Campus or on other Western New York pathways.

There is always safety in numbers.  If you intend to walk, jog or bicycle on a bicycle path, please do so with a friend.

And please be alert, keeping in mind your safety and that of others. Contact UB Police (x2222) or Amherst Police (x911) if you observe anything suspicious or of concern while on the paths.

The victim in the homicide was the wife of Dr. Steven T. Diver, associate professor in the UB Department of Chemistry.  The Diver family is in the thoughts of our campus community at this difficult and tragic time.

The UB Counseling Center is available to provide support and assistance to family, friends and students and colleagues of Dr. Diver and his family. The center is reaching out to his department, lab and classes as well. Contact the center at 645-2720 for information or assistance.
