The Niagara Frontier Transit Authority (NFTA) Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred on October 29, 2008 at 9:45 pm in the NFTA Park & Ride parking lot located on the UB South Campus.

The suspect was accompanied by 4 to 5 other males before he approached the victim, displayed a knife and demanded cash. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot westbound across Main Street.

The suspect was described as a black male, 18-20 yrs of age, approx. 6'2" tall, very thin, wearing a tan Carhartt-style jacket, black knit hat, and dark pants.

In this case the victim was not a UB student; however, several of our students have been victims of crimes in the University Heights area within the past week. All victims were males and in most cases were walking alone in the evening hours.

The Buffalo Police Department will increase patrols near the South Campus this weekend. Be aware that, traditionally, Halloween weekend tends to be a busy weekend for law enforcement.

To protect yourself, remember to stay alert to your surroundings and always travel with other people. When possible, use the Anti-Rape Task Force escort program or other UB transportation services. Call 829-2584 for escort program information from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday or go to their Web site at healtheducation.buffalo.edu.

Members of the community are urged to be vigilant at all times. Report any unusual circumstances or suspicious persons and activities to the University Police at 645-2227 as soon as possible.
