According to University at Buffalo pop-culture expert Elayne Rapping, the Saints' Super Bowl victory shows how cultural symbols like a football team can bring a community together. "New Orleans has been through hell and the Saints have been losers, historically. This win gives a sense of pride and renewal to New Orleans." Casual football fans "would have to have a heart of stone not to have rooted for the Saints," Rapping says.
