Hear keynote speaker Dr. Robert Gore, an Emergency Medicine physician who is internationally recognized for his hospital, school and community-based youth violence prevention and empowerment program with teens and young adults.
Faculty, community members, students and trainees are invited to learn about research in health equity and social determinants of health in oral presentations and posters. A panel discussion will feature ongoing projects by community-university partners.
Robert Gore, MD, was born in Buffalo and is a 2002 UB School of Medicine graduate. He is an attending physician and clinical assistant professor at Kings County Hospital, SUNY Downstate Department of Emergency Medicine in Brooklyn. Gore is the founder and executive director of the KAVI (Kings Against Violence Initiatives) a hospital-, school- and community-based youth violence intervention, prevention and empowerment program for teens and young adults.
Gore was named a 2018 Top 10 CNN Hero, a global honor that celebrates everyday people changing the world. He was also a member of the 2018 Class of Presidential Leadership Scholars, and has been featured in the New York Times, the History Channel’s History Now series, TheRoot.com, Black Enterprise, BET, The Grio and more. In 2017, he was selected as one of Black Enterprise's 100 Men of Distinction
