UB nursing simulation expert Kelly Foltz-Ramos to co-lead SUNY initiative

BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo nursing instruction-simulation expert Kelly Foltz-Ramos was selected for the inaugural class of the State University of New York (SUNY) Nursing Simulation Fellowship.

This opportunity offers a platform to expand the impact of her work across the SUNY system.

Foltz-Ramos, PhD, assistant professor and director of simulation and innovation in the School of Nursing, was also chosen as one of two co-conveners to lead the development of the SUNY Simulation Shared Resource Library, a repository of vetted simulation scenarios, teaching strategies and troubleshooting guides, available SUNY-wide to simulation professionals.

The fellowship, which includes 10 other SUNY simulation experts, empowers UB and other SUNY institutions to further enhance simulation skills and collaborate with other campus fellows. The group aims to set the stage for the future of simulation-based learning across SUNY nursing programs.

“I am honored to help lead the development of a shared resource that will elevate simulation-based learning across SUNY,” says Foltz-Ramos. “This library will empower faculty with new tools and expand the scope of simulation for students, ultimately preparing them to meet the demands of an evolving health care environment.”

Foltz-Ramos described the fellowship as “an incredible opportunity” to advance simulation education and build a shared library “that truly supports our faculty and enriches student learning across SUNY. By collaborating on high-quality resources, we are not only enhancing our programs but also shaping the future of nursing education for all SUNY students.”

SUNY calls its Nursing Simulation Fellowship Program a “key initiative” aimed at further advancing SUNY nursing licensure programs system-wide in adopting simulation-based education. The program aims to elevate members of SUNY to the forefront of understanding and experience within the field.

SUNY hopes this initiative will ultimately foster effective partnerships of simulation spaces across the system.
