We define teamwork to be the set of behaviors executed by two or more individuals as a function of coordinating requirements imposed by independent tasks in achieving common goals (such as a grant submission, a manuscript, grant review committee, or implementation of a new clinical device). Therefore, team coordination is the essence of teamwork — the process, and the moment-to-moment behaviors by which independent team members achieve important goals and share valuable resources.
Workshops are available to enhance a successful team science approach by providing new skills and continuous education for translational research team members.
Translational Teamwork Workshop Series
The CTSI Translational Teamwork Workshop Series provides participants with basic knowledge of teamwork principles applicable in any research, educational, or clinical context.
Watch and Learn: Translational Teamwork
Sessions from the Translational Teamwork Core Competency Workshop Series, presented by experienced team researchers, were recorded and can be accessed as a series of free videos in Google Classroom. The series of four workshops, all lasting about one hour each, are designed to provide viewers with enhanced understanding of teamwork in research and clinical settings, strengthen teamwork skills, and improve team collaborations.
For each workshop, participants can complete a brief self-assessment quiz to test their knowledge. These questions are located at the bottom of the evaluation survey accompanying each workshop recording. Any participant who successfully completes four or more quizzes is eligible for the Translational Teamwork Core Competency Series Certificate of Completion. After completing each video, participants will receive an email from the CTSI confirming workshop completion and an optional demographics survey.
