UB professor Lourdes Vera exposed a plastics manufacturer using ChatGPT to generate a false report about the cancer-causing hazards of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) in seeking tax subsidies from the town of Lockport. Vera exposed the fake study at a public hearing July 2023, and the company put its application on hold. Co-sponsored by the departments of Environment and Sustainability, Political Science, Sociology, and the Center for Information Integrity.
