CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service (SFS) Program at NSF

Overview

National Science Foundation started the as a means to increase the number of qualified students in the area of computer security and information assurance (CS/IA). The motivation was to build capacity in the U.S. higher education enterprise to deal with the shortage of skilled professionals in the cyber security and IA fields at various federal agencies.

The scholarship covers two years of education in the BA/BS/MS/MBA/PhD programs with Cybersecurity option. The combined BS/MS students will be initially supported as undergrads. The following items are covered:

  • Tuition and Fees
  • Professional Development (including conference travel)
  • Yearly Stipend ($27,000 for Undergrads, $37,000 for Grads)

Eligibility Requirements

  • In fall of application year, undergrad applicants must be juniors (senior in their BS/MS program) or grads in their first year of MS
  • Must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Must be able to obtain security clearance and be eligible for federal employment
  • If not a UB student, must be eligible for admission to the MS/MBA program at UB in the Engineering, Business, Law, Math, Communication disciplines
