International students, scholars and professionals receive instruction and training supported by this fund.
The English Language Institute (ELI), founded in 1971 and a unit of the Graduate School of Education, is a leader in English language training. Here, we offer English language instruction, cultural orientation and pre-academic training to international students, scholars and professionals on an intensive and per-course basis.
The ELI conducts the Intensive English Program (IEP), which specializes in preparing students for university study in the United States; the English as a Second Language Program for UB undergraduate and graduate students; part-time evening courses for professionals and graduate students; and programs offering English as a Foreign Language (EFL) courses through UB's partnerships with universities overseas.
In addition, the ELI actively supports the university’s international recruitment effort and attracts highly qualified international students to UB, helps to promote the cultural diversity of the campus, and plays a major role in developing and administering the university’s overseas sponsored programs.
The ELI opened in 1971, and has welcomed more than 30,000 students through its doors.
