Within UB’s health professions programs, interprofessional education provides every student the opportunity to become an effective collaborative healthcare practitioner by learning teamwork and communication skills with students from the professions of dental medicine, dietetics, law, management, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and social work.
IPE prepares health professions students from different professions to work in a collaborative, team environment to provide highly effective patient- and population-centered care. Interprofessional teams enhance the quality of patient care, lower healthcare costs, decrease patients' length of stay, and reduce medical errors. (Institute of Medicine - To Err is Human) Patients receive safer, high quality care when health professionals work effectively in a team, communicate productively, and understand each other's roles.
