Dear School of Architecture faculty, staff, and students,

I write on behalf of the search committee for the next dean of the School of Architecture and Planning. We are working hard to bring the most well-qualified finalists to our campus the week of May 8th – 12th. We received more than 100 applications from an accomplished, diverse, and distinguished international pool of candidates spanning architecture and planning. Due to the confidential nature of the search and to protect candidates’ identities, we cannot share the names of the finalists and the dates of their visits until next week.

Public Forums with the finalists are planned for Monday, May 8th through Friday, May 12th from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. in 403 Hayes Hall, on the South Campus. During these forums, the finalists will first provide introductory remarks and then engage with the audience. I encourage you to attend these open meetings and engage with our finalists. These meetings are open to all UB faculty, staff, and students.

Following the forums, the finalists will tour the School of Architecture and Planning. They will have the opportunity to visit, albeit briefly, the Final Review projects, displaying the accomplishments of the students.

*Please note that finalists have not yet been selected and times may vary based on their availability. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we finalize plans.

For those who cannot attend the public meetings in person, a live stream will be available on the search website. A recording of each session will be made available on the search website.

The names and CVs of the finalists will be available on the search website 48 hours prior to each candidate’s visit. Members of the UB community will need to log in with their UBIT name and password to gain access to finalists’ names and CVs.

We recognize that this is a very busy time in the academic year, and the participation and input of School of Architecture and Planning faculty, staff, and students is critically important to the success of this search. We urge everyone to review the CVs of the finalists, attend or review their public meetings and submit input to the search committee via confidential feedback surveys for each finalist, which will be available on the search website.

The search committee thanks the School for its interest and participation in the search for the school’s next dean.

Sincerely yours,

Andrew Whittaker, Ph.D., S.E.
