Abstract: This year's Proceedings includes 42 research papers from undergraduate students presented at the 2007 Earthquake Engineering Symposium for Young Researchers. NSF-funded students from colleges and universities across the U.S. attended programs arranged by MAE, MCEER, NEES and PEER. Topics addressed in the papers include: base isolation, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs), refraction data processing, resonance effect, performance-based seismic design (PBSD) for woodframe structures, NEESWood Project, soil liquefaction, suspended zipper frames and control devices, floor isolation systems, collapse prediction, variable stiffness system, concrete isolator, electrical resistivity, strain and displacement, sensorFusion, radio frequency identification (RFID), precast concrete diaphragms, near-fault ground motion, function protection, fragility analysis of nonstructural components, seismic performance of exposed column base plates, Cone Penetration Test (CPT), soil mechanics analysis, impact analysis of self-centered concentrically braced frames (SC-CBF), passive site stabilization using colloidal silica, special truss moment frame (STMF) under quasi-static loading, tsunami inundation with coastal infrastructure, surge impact loading on wood residential structures, tsunami induced sediment transport and scour, post-tensioning and energy dissipators on bridges, metrology, finite element modeling of a coupled and welded piping system, self-centering moment resisting frame, accelerometer dynamic calibration system, small-scale bridge column performance, accessible hinge details for box girder bridges, engineered cementitious composite (ECC), retrofit of non-ductile RC frames with masonry infill, and seismic performance of reinforced-concrete moment-resisting frame buildings - among others.
