Abstract: Research on the safety assessment of existing buildings ranges from engineering-type broad evaluation methods to detailed experimental and analytical studies of specific types of common buildings or components. This report belongs to the former category and addresses many important questions in the United States. Numerous addition and alteration to the ATC-14 TYPE document, which emphasizes problems that NCEER will also publish a complete ATC-14 type document valid for regions of moderate seimicity which will include all the modifications reported here.
