Modern Steel Construction featured research work led by Michel Bruneau, SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, that investigated the use of SpeedCore technology.

SpeedCore is a new building design system that can reduce the time it takes to build large structures, as well as make those structures more resistant to disasters.

The tests at UB were some of the largest to date, and included C-shaped and T-shaped walls. Bruneau shared that, "Considering that a major dimension of resilience is how fast a building can return to service, our validated repair scheme demonstrated that using a SpeedCore wall is a viable solution to meet resilience objectives."
