Dear University Community:
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Ananth V. Iyer as dean of UB’s School of Management, effective August 1, 2022. Dr. Iyer will join UB from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
Dr. Iyer emerged from a highly competitive pool of candidates following an extensive national search. He stood out because of his innovative and ambitious vision for the school, as well as his substantial administrative experience, impressive research and consulting record, and collaborative approach to leadership. I am confident that Dr. Iyer will lead our School of Management in enhancing its impact and achieving even greater prominence in research and education.
At Purdue University, Dr. Iyer serves as senior associate dean, Susan Bulkeley Butler Chair in Operations Management and head of the management department. He is the director of the Dauch Center for the Management of Manufacturing Enterprises and the Global Supply Chain Management Initiative. He previously served as associate dean for graduate programs and director of Purdue NExT, a university-wide program that offers non-credit online courses for global distribution. As head of the management department, which includes eight areas, Dr. Iyer has overseen the hiring of over 50 faculty members, built industry partnerships, developed new interdisciplinary, online and combined degree programs, and supported research excellence in his department and school.
A highly accomplished scholar in operations and supply chain management, Dr. Iyer has published five books and over 50 journal articles and book chapters. His work has been supported by grants from numerous agencies and foundations including the National Science Foundation, Coast Guard, and Indiana Department of Transportation, among others. He has served as president of the MSOM Society of INFORMS and as an editor or editorial board member for numerous journals. Dr. Iyer was an American Council of Education Fellow, a visiting professor at the Wharton School and MIT Operations Research Center, and a Purdue University Faculty Scholar.
Dr. Iyer holds a PhD in industrial and systems engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in industrial engineering and operations research from Syracuse University, and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dean Kemper Lewis and all of the members of the search committee for their outstanding service, which was crucial to the successful outcome of this search. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dean Paul Tesluk for his dedicated leadership of UB’s School of Management over the last six years and for his willingness to continue serving as dean until Dr. Iyer arrives later this summer.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Iyer to UB and to this important leadership role within our campus community. For more details on this appointment, please view the full announcement here.
