Colleagues,
I am writing to inform you of a reorganization across the Provost’s units.
Undergraduate Education
Effective immediately, SUNY Distinguished Professor Ann Bisantz has been named Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education, reporting to me directly. In this expanded role, Professor Bisantz will be responsible for all aspects of undergraduate education including the UB Curriculum, Honors College, Cora P. Maloney Center, advising, experiential learning, retention and student success.
Professor Bisantz has served as dean of undergraduate education since 2017. During this time, she has been an excellent steward of UB’s undergraduate programs and curriculum, a partner to UB’s faculty in building new programs, and a university leader in UB’s efforts to enhance undergraduate student success. Professor Bisantz has served in a wide variety of academic leadership and service roles, including co-chairing the Middle States Reaccreditation Steering Committee.
Faculty Affairs
Effective June 2025, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School, Graham Hammill will transition to the role of Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs when current Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Robert Granfield, returns to his faculty role in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. Professor Hammill will continue to serve as Dean of the Graduate School. The following units will report to Professor Hammill in his new role: faculty affairs; Graduate School; registrar; curriculum, assessment and teaching (CATT); and academic integrity.
Professor Hammill has led UB’s academic affairs units since 2017 and has served as dean of the graduate school since 2015. An outstanding university leader, Professor Hammill has focused on advancing academic excellence across the university through enhancing academic and support programs for students at all levels, supporting pedagogical development and innovation, improving academic integrity, and enhancing academic assessment. Among his many contributions, during the pandemic, Professor Hammill led UB’s transition to remote learning and later facilitated the safe return of classes to campus.
I am grateful to both Ann and Graham for accepting these expanded academic leadership roles, and for their continued commitment to ensuring excellence for UB’s students, faculty and academic programs.
Colleagues, please join me in congratulating both Ann and Graham on their new and expanded roles. Please forward this message to faculty and staff in your units.
Sincerely,
A. Scott Weber Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
