Sherrilyn Ifill, civil rights attorney and former president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF), will speak on Feb. 16 as UB’s 47th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Speaker.

IRS-certified accounting students from the School of Management will once again provide free tax preparation services to individuals and families with annual income of $60,000 or less.

UB has announced the third annual UB Fast 46 competition, open to alumni and former students who own or lead businesses.

Ashu Sharma, professor of oral biology, has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Oral Biology in the School of Dental Medicine.

UB is no stranger to the World University Games. The university was a host to the games in July 1993, providing the venues for track and field, diving, tennis and volleyball, and housing the games’ 5,000 participants in the Ellicott Complex. And UB Stadium was built specially for the games and remains one of the World University Games’ most recognizable legacies.

The UB Foundation has announced the sale of the historic Butler Mansion in downtown Buffalo to Douglas Development for $3.75 million. 

John B. King Jr., a lifelong educator and secretary of education in the Obama administration, was appointed SUNY’s 15th chancellor today by the board of trustees.
