Men's Soccer

UB 3, Notre Dame 2
Sophomore forward Steve Butcher lofted in a header into the right corner of the goal past Notre Dame goalkeeper Greg Velho 9:47 into sudden-death overtime Saturday to lift the Bulls to a 3-2 win over 19th-ranked Notre Dame. Butcher finished the game with two goals and an assist to lead the visitors in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

All five goals were scored in the second half. Reggie McKnight put the Irish on the scoreboard first. Butcher tied the game for Buffalo at the 56:48 mark. With less than eight minutes to play, Sebastian Zawislan gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead when he scored off a cross from Butcher. Alan Woods' goal at the 86:17 mark sent the game into overtime.

Football

UB 40, Delaware State 30
The Bulls have proven what an interesting game football is in the past two weeks. The Bulls had 500 yards of total offense two weeks ago, but lost to Illinois State, 40-28. On Saturday, the Bulls were outgained 479-119 yards in total offense by Delaware State and won 40-30.

The difference? Turnovers. The Bulls had seven turnovers while forcing none at Illinois State. On Saturday, UB forced six turnovers and had none themselves in beating the Hornets.

Buffalo jumped to a 20-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game, saw the Hornets rally to 20-14, before scoring the next 20 points to put the game away before Delaware State scored 16 points in the last seven minutes to make the score closer.

Cross Country

The women's cross country team finished first out of six teams Saturday in the UB Invitational. The Bulls had five top-10 finishers in the 5,000-meter run held at the new Baird Point Lakes Course, which also will host the Mid-Con cross-country championships on Nov. 1.

The women's team finished first with 29 points as it defeated Youngstown State, Western Ontario, Toronto, St. Bonaventure and Niagara. In dual meets, Buffalo was 3-0 as it defeated Youngstown, St. Bonaventure and Niagara.

The men's cross-country team finished third overall out of seven teams in the Invitational with 50 points and 3-1 in dual meets. Western Ontario captured first and Youngstown State, second.
