Athletes of the Week
Sophomore swimmer Inger Rooneem set two new times, winning the 100 backstroke (:57.74) and the 200 individual medley (2:07.40) as the Bulls women's swimming team defeated the Cleveland State Vikings, 186-80, on Feb. 7.
Freshman wrestler Josh States was a double winner last weekend in the 177-pound division against both Seton Hall and Bucknell.
Basketball
Men's
UB 104, University of Rochester 75
The men defeated the University of Rochester, 104-75, on Feb. 3 in Alumni Arena. The Bulls were led by senior Mike Martinho, who set a school record with 44 points and tied his own school record of 10 three-point field goals. Martinho also grabbed seven rebounds.
Women's
UB 55, Oral Roberts 71
The women fell to 7-3 in the conference on Monday night with a loss at Oral Roberts, 71-55. The Bulls had two players score in double figures, with Latoya Crumpton leading the way with 19 and Charissa Gardner contributing 18. Crumpton also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Wrestling
UB 29, Seton Hall 7
UB 20, Bucknell 15
The wrestling team swept East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) foes Seton Hall and Bucknell on Feb. 7 in Alumni Arena. The Bulls defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 29-7, and the Bucknell Bison, 20-15. Double winners for UB included junior Brian Schaal (118), sophomore Jacob Partlow (134), freshman Josh States (177) and senior John Stutzman (150).
Tennis
The men's tennis team opened its Spring 1998 season at Ithaca this past weekend, competing in the Cornell Tennis Invitational. Ten top teams from the East competed in the three-day event. The Bulls first day of the tournament saw wins from Jordan Levitt, Rick Poveromo and David Emihovich.
Swimming
Women's
UB 186, Cleveland State 80
The women's swimming and diving team defeated Cleveland State, 186-80, on Feb. 7 in Alumni Arena Natatorium. Sophomore Inger Rooneem set two of the fastest times, winning the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.
Men's
UB 144, Cleveland State 97
The men defeated Cleveland State, 144-97, on Feb. 7 in UB Natatorium. They finished first in eight events, with six swimmers scoring new best times.
Indoor Track and Field
The men's and women's track and field teams finished first at the Class of '32 meet on Feb. 7, with the men scoring a total of 121 points and the women finishing at 183.5. Highlights of the meet included Katie Scott's school-record 7'0" jump in the pole vault, and Kamau Halim's first-place finish in the long jump, setting a UB school record.
