Athletes of the Week
Alexei Vasiliev led the men's basketball team in a break-out game for him, scoring a game and career-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including five three-pointers, in a 78-59 loss to Ball State.

At the MAC championships for women's swimming and diving, Inger Rooneem was the top performer for UB, as she placed third in the 100 freestyle (52.13), fourth in the 100 backstroke (57.55) and was a member of the third-place 200-medley relay team.




Basketball

Men's

Ball State 78, UB 59

The regular season came to an end for the men's basketball team on Feb. 24, with a 78-59 loss at Ball State University.

The Bulls started off hot, jumping out to an 8-3 lead and a 12-5 lead in the first four minutes of the game.

Alexei Vasiliev had the hot hand early for UB, hitting two three-pointers to open the game and then a driving layup for UB's first eight points.

Vasiliev continued to lead the Bulls in what became a break-out game for him, scoring a game- and career-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including five three-pointers. Nikolai Alexeev added eight points and a game- and career-high 14 rebounds, 12 coming on the defensive end.

Women's

Eastern Michigan 83, UB 74 Kent State 84, UB 48

The women's basketball team rounded out its season by dropping an 83-74 decision to host Eastern Michigan on Feb. 23 and losing its first-ever Mid-American Conference quarterfinal game on Friday against the defending MAC champions, Kent State Golden Flashes, 84-48.

Even though the Bulls shot 50 percent against EMU, they were unable to avert their fourth consecutive conference loss. Sophomore Mari McClure poured in a career-high 28 points in the losing effort, while Tiffany Bell added 19 points and nine rebounds.

In the MAC tournament quarterfinal game against Kent State, Coach Cheryl Dozier's team was led by senior Kim Coon, who scored 15 points, while Bell contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Swimming

Women's

The women's swimming team placed eighth out of nine squads at this year's Mid-American Conference championships hosted by Miami (Ohio).

Inger Rooneem was the top performer for Coach Dorsi Raynolds' squad. She placed third in the 100 freestyle (52.13), fourth in the 100 backstroke (57.55) and was a member of the third-place 200-medley relay squad, along with Kim Theetge, Lieselle Trinidad and Carrie Quinlan.

Indoor Track

Men placed 9th at MAC championships

Women placed 11th at MAC championships

Both the men's and women's indoor track teams took part in the MAC championships last weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio. The men placed ninth out of 10 teams, while the women placed 11th out of 12 squads.

Top finishers for the Bulls included Ruth Conlon, who placed fourth in the women's weight throw (16.83 meters), and Kamau Halim, who placed fourth in the men's triple jump (14.88 meters) and fifth in the long jump (7.13 meters)
