Football

UB 20, Kent State 17

The Bulls went through many emotions this week following the news that head coach Craig Cirbus' contract would not be renewed. Saturday, however, the only emotion they felt was elation after claiming the first overtime victory in school history, a 20-17 MAC win over Kent State in UB Stadium.

That the Bulls did it once again in come-from-behind fashion proved to be even sweeter as UB improved to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the MAC. Like UB's other win-an identical 20-17 victory over Bowling Green-this one featured a comeback in the final two minutes.

Senior kicker Scott Keller's 22-yard field goal on the final play of regulation was tipped by a Kent State player but still managed to find its way between the uprights to tie the game at 17-17. After Keller kicked a 38-yard field goal to give the Bulls the lead in overtime, the normally reliable Dave Pavich's 21-yard field goal hit the left upright and caromed harmlessly to the ground.

UB senior Tim Songer led the Bulls to a 2-1 win over third-seeded Akron in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament held at UB.

The Bulls, however, couldn't pull out another victory as the top-seeded Bowling Green Falcons used an early goal and then held off the Bulls to win 1-0 in the semifinal matchup. UB ended its season at 6-10-2.

For their play in the tournament, Joe Peplinski and Mike Peplinski were named to the MAC's All-Tournament squad. Earlier in the week, senior midfielder Brian McCallion was honored with All-MAC First Team recognition.

UB 2, Toledo 0

UB saw its hopes of winning a MAC Championship come to an end with a 2-0 loss to visiting Miami (OH) in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament at UB's RAC Field. The Bulls came into the game as the tournament's top seed after winning the MAC's regular season title. They had advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 win over Toledo in a quarterfinal match earlier in the week. Miami, the tournament's fourth seed, went on to win the tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Nicole Olszewski and Elizabeth Pfeffer were named to the MAC's All-Tournament team. Earlier in the week, head coach Jean-A. Tassy was named the MAC Coach of the Year. In addition, three players-Paula Listrani, Linnaea DiNallo and Pfeffer were named to the All-MAC First Team and Cherie Rogers was named to the all-conference second team.

Men's

Senior Budi Susanto and freshman Fery Kasiman finished with a victory and a loss in doubles competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rolex Regional Championships at Virginia Tech. In their first-round match, Susanto and Kasiman defeated senior Josh Hamilton and junior Bryan Rowland from Towson University, 8-4. However, that was as far as the UB duo advanced as they fell to 10th-seeded Francis Huot and Andrew Vu of Virginia Tech in the round of 32.

Susanto and Kasiman were not as successful in the singles bracket, however, as both dropped their first-round and consolation matches.
