Men

Ohio University 83, UB 66
Western Michigan 90, UB 72

Ohio University had four players in double figures and shot 48 percent from the field to score an 83-66 MAC victory over UB on Saturday in Alumni Arena.

The Bobcats outrebounded UB by a 41-32 advantage and used different presses to force 15 turnovers by the Bulls.

The Bulls fell to 2-14 overall and 0-9 in the MAC, losing their ninth straight overall.

UB started the week on the road at Western Michigan, falling, 90-72, to the Broncos on Jan. 24.

The Bulls, who shot a season-high 40 free throws, were hurt by 15 misses at the charity stripe and were outrebounded 40-33.

Women's

UB 77, Bowling Green 74
UB 70, Marshall 63

Senior Tiffany Bell exploded for a game-high 36 points, including five in overtime, to send UB to a 77-74 win at Bowling Green on Saturday. The win improved the Bulls to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the MAC, tying them with the Falcons for second place in the East Division standings.

UB opened the week by breaking its three-game losing streak with a 70-63 win over Marshall on Jan. 24 in Alumni Arena. Mari McClure and Bell combined for 52 points to lead the team.

Wrestling

UB 21, Kent State 10

UB picked up a big MAC victory, defeating Kent State, 21-10, in Alumni Arena. UB notched wins in all but three weight classes.

With his victory at 184 pounds over Kent State's Nick Magistrelli, senior Josh States became UB's all-time career wins leader.

UB started the dual meet with back-to-back wins by Bill Jacoutot at 149 pounds and Labe Black at 157 pounds.

After States' victory, the Bulls were ahead 9-7, and would keep the lead for good after senior John Eschenfelder notched a 5-2 decision at heavyweight.

The Bulls' season record is 8-4 overall and 3-0 in the MAC.

Athletes of the Week

Josh States of the wrestling team became UB’s all-time victories leader with his 96th win as he defeated Kent State’s Nick Magistrelli in the 184-pound bout. He is ranked 13th nationally by Intermat with a 21-3 overall mark and 3-0 Mid-American Conference record this season. Charlie Voorhees of the wrestling team defeated three-time MAC defending champion Brent Thompson of Kent State, 8-6, in the 125-pound match to lead the Bulls to a 21-10 win over the Golden Flashes.

Tiffany Bell of the women’s basketball team—named MAC East Division Player of the Week—averaged 30 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bulls to a pair of MAC victories and snap a three-game losing streak. Bell, with 1,441 points, also moved into second place on the career scoring list ahead of Lynette Bubel. She also became UB’s all-time leader in career field goals made (532), passing Brenna Doty’s total of 531.

Women's UB 182, Northern Illinois 116
Toledo 174, UB 126

UB split a pair of MAC meets Saturday afternoon in Alumni Arena Natatorium, moving its record to 8-3 overall and 3-3 in league action. UB defeated Northern Illinois 182-116 but fell to Toledo 174-126.

UB jumped out to an early lead as the Bulls' combo of Abby Delia, Gigi Tapia, Carrie Quinlan and Melissa Schafer captured the 400-medley relay in 4:00.75, their best showing of the year.

Individually, Delia captured the 100 backstroke in 59.05 and Quinlan earned a win in the 100 butterfly at 58.24, her season's best in the event. Quinlan also took second in the 50 freestyle in 24.87.

Also victorious for the Bulls was freshman Heather Rochette in the 200 butterfly in a season-best 2:09.71, cutting more than a full second off her previous mark. Rochette also was second in the 400-individual medley (4:36.14) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:10.20).

Men's

Northern Illinois 164, UB 75
Toledo 172, UB 67

UB concluded its home season by dropping a pair of Mid-American Conference dual meets Saturday afternoon. The Bulls fell to Northern Illinois, 164-75, and to Toledo by a 172-67 score. With the losses, the Bulls fall to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in MAC action.

In their final home meet, seniors Eric Stimson and Josh Pun were the Bulls' lone winners on the day. Stimson won the 200 backstroke in 1:51.81, while Pun took the 200 butterfly in a season-best 1:54.94, shaving almost a full second off his previous best.

Indoor Track

Men and women defeat Canisius

UB's indoor track and field squads were victorious at the UB Open on Friday in Alumni Arena, as the women defeated Canisius, 127-37, while the men downed the Griffs, 86-61.

The women's squad set a pair of school records. Laura Olson won the pole vault with a mark of 10-6 (3.20m), breaking the old mark of 10-2 (3.10m) set by teammate Deven Fister last season. Sarah Fletcher was a double winner for the Bulls, setting a new school standard in the shot put with a toss of 43-9.75 (13.35m), breaking her old mark of 40-2 (12.24m) from last season. She also won the 20-lb. weight throw with a toss of 57-11.25 (17.66m).

In the men's meet, Andre Forde was victorious in both the 55 meters (6.74) and 200 meters (23.74). Pete Otovic won the 400 meters in 52.14 and was part of the victorious 4 x 400 relay squad in 3:32.20 with Rich Juskiewicz, Tom Abbey and Mike Commisso.
