Ball State University, which shocked UCLA and Kansas in back-to-back games in November at the Maui Invitational, hit 53 percent of its shots to down UB, 87-63, in front of 6,130 in the John Worthen Arena in a Mid-American Conference game.
Athletes of the Week

Davis Lawrence of the men's basketball team came off the bench to score a season-high 14 points, including three three-pointers, to help the Bulls to a 69-57 Mid-American Conference victory over Central Michigan. Lawrence, a junior guard, was 4-for-7 on his field-goal attempts and added a team-best six assists in 23 minutes of action.

Faith Thompson of the women's track-and-field team won two events at Cornell University's Marc Deneault Invitational. Thompson broke her own week-old school record to win the shot put at 44-8.25 (13.62m), bettering last week's mark by 1.25 inches. She also took first in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 53-8.50 (16.37m).

The Cardinals jumped to a 41-28 halftime advantage and then shot 65.4 percent in the second half (17-of-26) to make sure UB could not mount a comeback.

The few bright spots for the Bulls were the play of seniors Robert Brown and Louis Campbell, and freshman Turner Battle. Brown finished with 13 points, 11 of them in the first half, and four rebounds while Campbell had 12 points, five assists and two steals. Battle, meanwhile, hit 5-of-9 shots, including a pair of treys, to finish five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

On Saturday, Campbell scored a game-high 19 points and UB connected on 8-of-12 three-pointers in the second half to snap a four-game losing streak with a 69-57 win over Central Michigan. The game, which was televised live on Empire and ESPN Plus, was played before a crowd of 1,522 in Alumni Arena.

The Bulls improved to 11-14 overall and 6-8 in the MAC and now have won as many MAC games this year as they had in the previous three years when they went 6-48 in the MAC.

Women's

Marshall 55, UB 35
Ohio 70, UB 55

A poor shooting night and physical play by the visiting Marshall Thundering Herd resulted in a 55-35 loss for the Bulls in Alumni Arena. The Bulls shot just 26.2 percent from the floor in the game (11-for-42) and failed to have a scorer in double figures for the first time this season.

UB's losing streak reached six games as the Ohio Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field and used solid defensive pressure to claim a 70-55 win over the Bulls Saturday afternoon in The Convo in Athens, Ohio.

The Bulls again were hurt by turnovers, committing 24 in the game, which offset some solid shooting, including 5-of-13 from three-point range. Ohio hit 26-of-52 shots from the field and also outscored the Bulls by eight points at the foul line.
