Kent State 35, UB 13

UB worried all week about Kent State freshman quarterback Joshua Cribbs' ability to make plays with his feet. Cribbs showed the Bulls Saturday that he can hurt an opposing team with his arm as well.

Cribbs hit 15-of-16 passes for 194 yards in the first half as Kent State opened up a 28-10 halftime lead and held off a UB rally in the second half to hand the Bulls a 35-13 defeat at Dix Stadium in a Mid-American Conference clash. UB fell to 1-6 overall and has lost four straight.

Athletes of the Week

Dave Pidgeon of the men's soccer team scored the game-winning goal in UB's 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Sunday. Pidgeon also picked up an assist in the Bulls' 2-0 win over Binghamton as UB finished 2-1 for the week. Pidgeon is tied for the team lead with three goals this season.

Molly Schrantz of the women's volleyball team had a career-high 11 digs against Kent State and a team-high 8 kills against Akron in the Bulls' weekend matches. Schrantz is currently third on the team with 104 kills this season and fifth with 118 digs.

Cribbs, who came into the game ranked eighth in the MAC in rushing per game, led the Golden Flashes to touchdown drives on their first two possessions and riddled the UB defense with pinpoint passing the entire first half.

The UB offense was led by senior running back Derrick Gordon, who had 22 carries for 80 yards. Junior flanker Maurice Bradford led UB with five receptions for 46 yards, while Matt Knueven had four catches for 73 yards and his first career touchdown.

Defensively, the Bulls were led by redshirt freshman J.J. Gibson, who had 12 tackles on the afternoon. Senior Bobby Johnson added 10 tackles and a sack, while senior free safety Craig Rohlfs had nine tackles.

A Canisius goal by Ryan Dummett 21:27 into the game was the difference as UB fell to the Golden Griffins, 1-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Friday night. UB outshot Canisius nine to one in the second half (16-6 for the game), producing several opportunities, but the Bulls still couldn't manage to hit the back of the net.

Dave Pidgeon scored on a penalty kick 2:48 into the second half to break a 1-1 tie as the Bulls went on to claim a 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Sunday. The Bulls improve to 6-6-1 overall.

Bucknell opened the scoring 18:26 into the game on a header off an indirect kick from 25 yards out. The Bulls then responded with a goal of their own in the 30th minute when freshman Justin Higgins knocked in a rebound.

Then, with just over three minutes into the second half, UB was awarded a penalty kick when Bucknell goalkeeper Steve Whitaker was called for a foul. Pidgeon put the ball just out of reach of Whitaker to give the Bulls the 2-1 lead, which proved to be the final outcome.
