In today's ever changing business landscape, the arts need people that can help inform the role of art and ensure its sustainability. The arts need managers that know the power of persuasion, data collection and analysis, and design to market, finance, and advocate effectively. Equally important, the arts need managers who can negotiate the pressures and cultural systems that effect the day-to-day management of the arts.
UB’s graduate program in arts management prepares you for this work. You will take courses in business and law; cultural theory as a foundation to understand changes in local, national, and international art landscapes; and finish with hands-on, experiential practice with existing arts entities and institutions.
I really wanted to work at an art museum and I was not getting any traction applying to jobs at art museums with my BA in Print Journalism. I thought that a master's in Arts Management would help me break into the field, and I was right!
