Established in 2004, this award acknowledges faculty who have made sustained and wide-ranging service contributions to a broad array of university constituents. The award recipients have distinguished themselves through exceptional service to the university and to their communities, as well as to their disciplinary, professional and faculty governance organizations at the statewide, national and international levels.
Department of Psychology
Clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychology, Joyce Lacy, PhD, is an excellent educator and mentor. She has an exemplary record of departmental service marked by extraordinary initiative and impactful results in her department’s approach to equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as undergraduate mentorship and support. Lacy was her department’s inaugural diversity officer and chair of its Equity and Inclusion Committee. She serves as coordinator of the department’s undergraduate internships program and faculty advisor for UB’s chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. In addition, Lacy founded the Western New York Undergraduate Psychology Conference, which provides students from across the region a venue to share their research.
Department of Engineering Education
Kristen Moore, PhD, is an associate professor of technical communication with a joint appointment in engineering education and English, as well as associate dean of equity and inclusion in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. As a specialist in writing and rhetoric with a focus on equity and inclusion, Moore draws on her research expertise in developing an integrated approach to service. A founding faculty member of the Department of Engineering Education, Moore was integral in recruitment, hiring and curriculum development for the department’s doctoral, master’s and advanced certificate programs. In addition, Moore serves as chair of the school’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee, which works to ensure that the school is an inclusive and diverse community where everyone has equitable access and opportunity.
