Dear Incoming and Returning Acker Scholars,

To our Incoming Acker Scholars, welcome to UB and the Acker Scholars Program! We are very much looking forward to working with you!

To our Returning Acker Scholars, we are very much looking forward to welcoming you for the fall semester!

As you prepare to begin the fall semester, please know that your academic advisor is here for you to answer any questions, identify resources to help you succeed both academically and personally, and help you to navigate everything that the coming year will bring.

During the first two weeks of the fall semester, you are welcome to digitally “swipe in” to ask any questions that you might have using the Navigate app. When you schedule your appointment, please feel free to request your appointment with me, Danielle Johnson.

For Incoming Acker Scholars, you will begin meeting to discuss your fall semester in June, using the Navigate app.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

The Daniel Acker Scholars Program is a unique, individualized learning community of academically talented and diverse students who have strong commitment to social justice, leadership and community service. Here, students find a robust culture of acceptance and inclusion, where scholars are encouraged to embrace all aspects of their social identities on the path to becoming well-rounded people.

Acker Scholars are selected to participate in the program at their point of admission to UB, and they receive opportunities and the support needed to maximize their college experience, from enrollment to graduation and beyond.

What we do

  • Plan programs and workshops that highlight the multicultural diversity within the Acker Scholars program, helping students to fully embrace their unique individuality.
  • Teach students how to build positive working relationships with faculty through one-on-one advising sessions, workshops, programs and assignments.
  • Organize community service projects that help students develop an appreciation for helping their local communities and understanding of the needs of the residents that live in Buffalo and Western New York. By giving back through service, Acker Scholars have the chance to see firsthand the impact that their efforts have within the community.

Through a unique educational experience, the Daniel Acker Scholars Program prepares exceptional students to be future leaders in their chosen field of study.
