We are expanding our Informatics Core by creating the BTC CTSI Informatics Resource, which includes units and departments that leverage the rich resources in informatics and data science throughout the BTC.

UB Department of Biomedical Informatics

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI), established in 2014, is dedicated to developing informatics innovations that improve health, health care and biomedical research. The department offers a rich work environment with state-of-the-art labs, excellent support for research and an internationally renowned faculty. In addition to doctoral/research training by these faculty, the BMI’s unique consortium of affiliated teaching hospitals and health care systems offers a wide range of clinical experiences and training opportunities.

UB Department of Biostatistics

Department of Biostatistics unites statistical theories and methods with research to produce new knowledge and understanding of biological processes. Faculty conduct research in statistical sciences and collaborate extensively with disciplines across the scientific spectrum. Examples of collaborative relationships include work with investigators in biomedical, public health, computer science and engineering fields.

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics

From preclinical studies to epidemiology, the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Roswell Park develops cutting-edge methods and software tools focused on cancer research. With expertise across biology, medicine, statistics, mathematics and computer science, the faculty guide and participate in basic, translational, epidemiological and clinical trials research.

National Center for Ontology Research (NCOR)

Established in Buffalo in 2005 to advance ontological research and applications, NCOR draws on the expertise of UB ontologists and collaborators globally. The NCOR ontology development methodology was established in 2021 as an ISO standard (ISO/IEC 21838) and is used in ~400 initiatives in biomedical informatics as a foundation of strategies to achieve fairness in the creation and use of digital assets.

Institute for Healthcare Informatics

The Institute for Healthcare Informatics (IHI) is a secure computing center and compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). One of the key components of the IHI is the UB Clinically Integrated Healthcare Data Repository (CIDR). This repository holds electronic health record and claims data for the vast majority of the Western New York population. By leveraging the CIDR, researchers gain access to comprehensive and diverse datasets that enable a wide range of research endeavors.

UB Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

This institute brings together world class researchers from UB and beyond to advance the promise of true machine intelligence, human-machine partnerships in creating, curating, and disseminating data, and computing-related knowledge and skills.

Center for Computational Research (CCR)

A leading academic supercomputing center, the CCR provides researchers with access to advanced computing resources. It maintains a high-performance computing environment, high-end visualization laboratories, and support staff with expertise in computing, visualization, and networking.

Roswell Park Biomedical Research Informatics Shared Resource (BRISR)

BRISR brings expertise in informatics and support in translational, clinical, and basic science research. It provides structured access to real-time reliable clinical data, delivered in a HIPAA-compliant manner, for the advancement of non-interventional studies at Roswell Park. BRISR offers the infrastructure and processes to establish and monitor data standards, quality, integration and distribution across Roswell Park.
