Adam Rubin (He/Him)

Adam is the Assistant Vice Provost and Director of Education Abroad.

Originally from Walla Walla, Washington, a high school study abroad experience in Japan and various global adventures with his family helped spark his interest in education abroad from an early age. Adam has worked in the field of international education for over 25 years in a variety of senior and executive leadership roles. He served as the Director of Institutional Relations and Enrollment Management for The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University, Associate Vice President of International Programs at Road Scholar, and held various roles over 20+ years with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), including Executive Director of Program Development and Evaluation, Senior Program Director for Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East, and the on-site Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in Japan. Adam’s work has included significant focus on program development and evaluation, domestic and international partnerships, student affairs, program management and operations, and student health and mental health in education abroad.

Adam enjoys collaborating with domestic and international colleagues and is a member of both NAFSA and the Forum on Education Abroad. He previously served on the NAFSA Health and Safety Subcommittee and the NAFSA Trainer Corps and was a member of the Forum Standards Committee, Annual Conference Committee, Incident Database Committee, and Curriculum Award Selection Committee. He is a current member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers in Asia (VIA) and a former board member with the World Affairs Council of Maine.

He has presented nationally and internationally on a variety of issues and topics, including program development, global risk management, student health and safety, student mental health abroad, global internships and service-learning, and managing programs in non-traditional locations. He enjoys developing and supporting global opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds and is dedicated to helping increase access to education abroad programs for all students.

Adam received his M.A. in East Asian Studies from Stanford University and a B.A. in Economics from Whitman College. He speaks Japanese, enjoys various sports (tennis, downhill skiing, and soccer), loves music, photography, and food, and has traveled to over 70 countries on six continents.

Adam is currently serving as the primary advisor for UB faculty-led programs.
