These are study abroad programs that are not supported nor vetted by the University at Buffalo. These programs are often through third-party vendors such as AIFS, CEA, CIEE, SIT, etc., however these also include study abroad programs administered by SUNY Community Colleges.
If you will be applying to a Non-SUNY study abroad program, you must notify our office by completing the application linked below. Please note that this application is in addition to the application you would complete through the administering organization.
Participation on a Non-SUNY sponsored program requires your completion of the Leave of Absence Form** through the Registrar's Office, as well as registration at the sponsoring campus (if any). Prior to departure, students must ensure that UB’s Office of Admissions will accept credit from the institution issuing the transcript (school of record). Credits earned abroad are shown as transfer credits on your official UB transcript. An official transcript from the school of record should be sent to UB’s Office of Admissions upon conclusion of the study abroad program. UB’s transfer credit policy and approval process are outlined on the Office of the Registrar's website and UB Admissions’ website.

**Please note that the Leave of Absence Form is only required for Fall or Spring Non-SUNY programs. The Leave of Absence Form requirement is not applicable for short-term Non-SUNY programs: Summer or Winter.
If a student chooses to participate in a Non-SUNY study abroad program, they will apply directly to the Non-SUNY program, and pay the associated fees directly to the program provider. Students will not remain registered at UB for Non-SUNY study abroad programs and thus, financial aid from UB will not be applied to these programs.
