Adjusting to UB Involves Three Areas of Transition
Academic Success - Developing self-learning skills necessary to succeed, such as reading textbooks, taking notes, checking for understanding, and utilizing faculty, peers and tutoring.
Social Integration - Engaging, learning outside the classroom, developing networks of support and healthy behaviors in managing stress.
Understanding UB - Successfully navigating UB's physical setting, including its interconnected online systems and resources.
Response Time - Advising is typically available by appointment through Navigate. Please allow up to two business days for a phone call or email response.
Email - Always use your UB email address when contacting your advisor or the university. Include your full name and person number in your email.
Contact Information - Keep your cell phone number, home address and emergency contact information up-to-date in your HUB Student Center so UB can reach you.
Success in the Classroom - Attend every class. Sit in the front of the class. Turn off your cellphone before each class.
Communication - A conversation with family members about the expectation of sharing grades/academic progress is encouraged prior to starting UB. Open communication with faculty, advisors and staff is also highly recommended.
Work - If you need to work, try to find a job on campus, if possible. Limit yourself to no more than 12-15 hours of work per week as a full-time college student in order to have enough time for studying.
