A graduate education is a journey that prepares ambitious students to be leaders in their chosen fields, with greater job opportunities and higher earnings. At UB, we are committed to providing the academic excellence, transformative experience and accessible education these students deserve.
Recognizing the continuous need to support graduate education, and importance of the thesis and dissertation, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School, Graham Hammill, envisioned a way to enhance the graduate experience, and augment the Mark Diamond Research Fund.
The Mark Diamond Research Fund, financed primarily by student fees, offers grants to University at Buffalo graduate students for research expenses related to their thesis or dissertation. PhD students may now apply for up to $3,000, MFA students for up to $2,000 and master’s students for up to $1,500.
Over the course of a year, more than $200,000 is given to graduate students for research expenses related to their thesis or dissertation.
With your help, the Graduate Research Enhancement Fund offers grants to graduate students for research expenses related to their thesis or dissertation. Your investment will allow us to have a greater impact on our graduate students, across the campus.
Mark Diamond attended the University at Buffalo as a graduate student in the 1980s. Mark was active in the Graduate Student Association. He worked tirelessly to continue making research funds available to UB graduate students, regardless of their area of study, as director of the then “Graduate Resource Access Development Fund.”
Unfortunately, Mark perished in an automobile accident while serving as the fund director. As a tribute to Mark and his devotion to graduate research, the Graduate Student Association voted to rename the research grant fund in his honor.
