Coordinating educational outreach that enhances STEM teaching / learning within the community and leading to expanded career opportunities
The UB Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences (CIGBS) is the coordinating center for the Western New York Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Hub of the Empire State STEM Learning Network. STEM Hub facilitates collaboration among business, education, community organizations, arts and cultural organizations, and government entities to advance the interdisciplinary teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics. It supports sustained economic and intellectual vitality in the five-county region and is developing an innovative workforce by building the current regional STEM infrastructure.
It is establishing a new, signature WNY STEM Trail program to provide professionals and students with STEM experiences aligned with career learning. WNY STEM also supports existing workforce development and economic development through innovative programs.
These regional programs are the basis of our planned multinational, global health and biomedical STEM collaborations in Jamaica, Zimbabwe and other countries. We hope to establish pipelines that will feed the next generation of biomedical researchers, particularly in the fields that are leading global and regional economic development.
