There is a big presence of transportation assets in the Western New York area, with the presence of the Great Lakes, a vibrant shipping industry, as well as extensive movement of commodities and industrial goods between the U.S., Canada and other countries. A significant proportion of Canada’s GDP originates in the region between Buffalo and Toronto, with the active presence of a logistics-industry cluster on both sides of the border.
