Why focus on women when considering environmental degradation, you may ask? Well, it’s because women are often more exposed and vulnerable to climate change due to often receiving less education, being poorer, and not having a voice regarding political and household decisions. And we believe white people have an important role to play. The local SURJ chapter is SURJ Buffalo.

Most cities, including Buffalo, host their municipality sponsored Pride events during June or July. This timing discrepancy with the academic year means that most UB students aren't able to celebrate their own personal pride in their identity by marching with their friends before returning home for the summer. This is why in 2019, students, along with multiple campus partners, hosted the first UB Pride celebration in the month of April. The first UB Pride Parade was held on April 24, 2019 and the campus committed to future parades as an annual campus tradition.
The onset of COVID-19 unfortunately cancelled 2020 UB Pride events and ongoing in-person gathering guidelines will prevent a 2021 parade. However, with the support of the Intercultural and Diversity Center, students have still planned a full schedule of UB Pride 2021 events! The LGBTQ FSA is committed to supporting an in-person campus Pride Parade in 2022. Join students in celebrating UB Pride this year at a number of campus and virtual events.

"The Long Trail Out, a 25-minute documentary film, appeals to a wide and diverse audience, it works across generations and has the capacity to change minds and opinions as it takes the viewer on a very personal journey of coming out. The struggles faced during a life of hiding, the decision to come out and the physical challenges faced while climbing mountains make for a powerful and compelling story. The film’s message will educate both young and old, gay and straight, on the importance of being proud of who you are."
The screening will be followed by remarks from the documentary subject and East Aurora native Tim Buchanan and Shai Ben-Dor, the filmmaker and director. The program will conclude with a "coming out" panel of students, faculty and staff, and a reception in the Center for the Arts Atrium.

Most cities, including Buffalo, host their municipality sponsored Pride events during June or July. This timing discrepancy with the academic year means that most UB students aren't able to celebrate their own personal pride in their identity by marching with their friends before returning home for the summer. We hope that this UB specific Pride parade will foster an environment of inclusion where students can feel safe and comfortable marching with friends and allies, as well as reaffirming the University's commitment to their LGBTQ+ students.
The parade will be followed by a festival on the Student Union Field and all are welcome to attend.
The LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Association will march as a group in the parade. Each person who signs up to march with the FSA will get a sign with our brand mark to carry. Sign Up Online
If you sign up to march with the FSA, you don't need to register for the parade seperately.
